You may have heard about fishing at Covington Elementary School from your child, a teacher or from others in the community. What is fishing, you maybe asking yourself? Fishing is a behavior philosophy that we adopted along with the rest of the parish to encourage positive behaviors in the school and throughout our lives.

The four parts of the fish philosophy are:

BE THERE - To be there is to show others that you are there mentally. Make good eye contact, smile, nod your head, and be aware of your tone of voice. You can multi-task with "stuff, " but you need to "be there" for people.

CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE - When you learn you have the power to choose your response to what life brings. If you find yourself with an attitude that is not what you want it to be, you can choose a new one. The attitude you have right now is the one you are choosing. What attitude will you choose today?

MAKE THEIR DAY - When you do something for someone else, you "make someone's day" (or moment). It doesn't matter how big or small it is, it really is the thought that counts.

HAVE FUN LEARNING- Work made fun gets done, especially when we choose to do serious tasks in a lighthearted, spontaneous way.
